This is known to be the beach to just to lay back. Unlike Unawatuna and Hikkaduwa, Mirissa is yet to be developed in many areas. The beach is ideal for snorkelling and whale watching trips are arrange during season. It offers the visitor that peaceful time which you rarely get in a beach location.

Fabulous beach in the East Coast
Nilaveli Beach

This world famous Nilaveli beach in Sri Lanka is ideally suited for sun bathing and diving. This shallow beach goes up to half a mile into the sea. A few metres from the coast are a small rocky island good for snorkelling. This, only 8 miles from Trincomalee once possessed the chief slattern in the South- East of Sri Lanka. Be serenaded by the turquoise blue ripples of the Indian Ocean as you step on to the most coveted sands of Sri Lanka’s eastern coast. Hemmed by smooth pearl white foam that splashes onto the golden beach, the Nilaveli waves will enthrall you no end. The calm and beauty are almost therapeutic, the panoramic views are awe-inspiring and anyone who visits is guaranteed to come back for more.
Between April and October is the best time to visit the Eastern seashore, but it is always possible to pop into the sea for a swim. Amazingly it is also possible to walk into the ocean bed for hundreds of feet with the water twirling just around your waist. Those who enjoy snorkeling, scuba diving, and fishing will find these glistening blue waters and the warm weather ideal as well. The beach has ample water sports facilities including fishing and sea angling. Nilaveli is ideally suited for sunbathing and diving.
Venture to the coast of Nilaveli in the wee hours of the morning to catch a glimpse of one of the most breathtaking sights you will ever see. The first rays of the sun loom behind the endless waves of the dazzling blue waves and blend perfectly to form a beautiful vista.
Pigeon Island, a foremost breeding ground for blue rock pigeons is a short boat ride away from the coastline of Nilaveli. It was pronounced a national park due to the abundance of natural wonders including being bordered by some of the best coral reefs of Sri Lanka. Nilaveli Beach is surrounded by some other attractions such as the Trincomalee harbor which is among the best natural harbours of the world, Trincomalee bay, and Swami Rock Temple, a place of worship of the Hindus. Another interesting and important site is hot spring wells in Kinniya while enjoying at Nilaveli.
