This world famous Nilaveli beach in Sri Lanka is ideally suited for sun bathing and diving. This shallow beach goes up to half a mile into the sea.A few metres from the coast are a small rocky island good for snorkelling. This, only 8 miles from Trincomalee once possessed the chief slattern in the South- East of Sri Lanka.

Pigeon Island, a foremost breeding ground for blue rock pigeons is a short boat ride away from the coastline of Nilaveli. It was pronounced a national park due to the abundance of natural wonders including being bordered by some of the best coral reefs of Sri Lanka.
Nilaveli Beach is surrounded by some other attractions such as the Trincomalee harbour which is among the best natural harbours of the world, Trincomalee bay, and Swami Rock Temple, a place of worship of the Hindus.Another interesting and important site is hot springs wells in Kinniya while enjoying at Nilaveli.

You can visit the Pigeon Island Marine marine park which lies 2km off the coast of Nilaveli. This island is a paradise for those who love diving, snorkelling and sea bathing.
Not only that, this isolated island is the habitat for the very rare corals and marine animals and of course during a walk around the island can observe endemic and migrant bird species.
